Mobile Phone Keypad Life Test

Specification

Panasonic, a leading mobile phone manufacturer, required a test system to simulate repetitive keypad actuation.

The customer stipulated that the 'life-tester' should allow the operator to select the force to be applied to a mobile phone keypad.

Solution

Mecmesin improved on other 'Life-testers' by providing a Test System whereby the force applied to the keypad could be pre-set by the operator using the AFTI display.

The Test system simulated repetitive keypad usage allowing tests of up to 100,000 cycles to be carried out on each key.

The equipment consisted of a pneumatic actuator controlled via a Programmable Limit Controller (PLC) moulded in the base of the unit. The actuator is fitted with a Sub-miniature Loadcell to enable the required keypad force to be set. At the end of the life-test the keypad is checked visually and also for functional performance to see if it is still working.

System

  • Force Gauge
  • Sub-miniature Loadcell
